Start a Girl Talk Chapter

Starting and leading a Girl Talk chapter is a rewarding experience. But while leadership comes with a lot of fun, it also comes with responsibilities. It is a huge commitment that should not be taken lightly.

All of the information that a new leader needs to start a chapter can be found in the
Girl Talk Handbook. The handbook includes step-by-step instructions to create and to successfully run a Girl Talk chapter. The handbook also includes many ideas, how-to’s and fun games for leaders to use for their Girl Talk Chapter meetings.

If you are establishing a new Girl Talk chapter within your school, church or extra curricular group, you must first seek permission from the organization itself. Set up a meeting to share the Girl Talk program with them. Bring your potential Girl Talk adult advisor and fellow high school leaders to show support for starting a chapter.

By following all of the rules to make your chapter official, you are entered into our database and listed as an official Girl Talk chapter. Even better - once you become an official chapter that means that you become an official Girl Talk Leader too! As a leader, you can apply for Girl Talk scholarships and the National Girl Talk Leader of the Year Award. We just might feature you and your chapter on our Web site too!

The following information will give you an overview of what it takes to be a Girl Talk Leader and start a chapter. It includes the expectations of a leader, the leadership contract, how to run a meeting and frequently asked questions. Please read through this section carefully and take time to think about your decision. If you decide to move forward, know that we will help you every step of the way!

Becoming a Girl Talk leader is a five step process.

Step 1. Share: Download the Girl Talk Handbook, and share the idea with friends and family.

Step 2. Show: Review the Leader Expectations, and show it to your potential Girl Talk adult advisor.

Step 3. Know: Obtain permission from your school to start a chapter and know you are going to make a big difference in the lives of many young girls.

Step 4. Grow: Find an adult advisor for your chapter and start to grow as a leader.

Step 5. Go: Complete the Leadership Contract, sign it along with your advisor, mail the original back to us and go make a difference!

Tell your friends about Girl Talk. If you are a middle school girl and wish there were a Girl Talk chapter in your school, send this page to a female high school friend or sister, or talk to your middle school guidance counselor.
