A typical meeting last about an hour and is held once a week. The day before the meeting takes place is when Girl Talk Leaders get together and decide, based upon the anonymous concerns they receive from the girls they’ll be teaching, what lesson they want to discuss. The following is an example of how a typical meeting might go:

3:15 – Girls start showing up for the meeting, have a few snacks and socialize for 10 – 15 minutes.

3:30 – The topic for the meeting is introduced by playing a game called “icebreaker”. This is a great way to get all the girls involved and get them excited about the day’s lesson.

3:40 – The Leader then shares a personal story as it relates to the topic at hand.

3:45 – The topic is then discussed openly and all the girls are encouraged to come up with solutions about how they would deal the issue. For example, if the topic was about gossip, the girls would be asked to talk about how they would react if someone started a rumor about them.

3:55 – Girls are then divided into groups to discuss what they’ve learned. A Leader is assigned to each group to lead the discussion and older girls, such as 8th graders, are encouraged to start taking on leadership roles as well.

4:10 – The girls are then given a challenge to consider for the week and are asked to share their stories on how they did with the challenge at the next meeting. And that’s it! Both Leaders and girls are dismissed until next week!
